Nightfall AI is a new data AI security platform for protecting your company’s data from getting into LLM’s that is worthwhile to investigate as a part of a holistic Gen AI data governance strategy.

Setting up good Gen AI data governance is critical for companies to enable their employees to take advantage of GenAI’s massive productivity gains while also mitigating risks of confidential company & customer data getting into the Foundational Models (i.e. ChatGPT).
“Employees can easily expose sensitive and proprietary enterprise data when interacting with generative AI chatbot solutions. These applications may indefinitely store information captured through user inputs, and even use information to train other models — further compromising confidentiality. Such information could also fall into the wrong hands in the event of a security breach.”
Avivah Litan, Gartner, Why Trust and Security are Essential for the Future of Generative AI – April 2023
One interesting tool that just released is Nightfall AI, a data security platform, that protects data transmission across web-based LLMs, SaaS platforms, and across custom apps/API integrations across their three services.
Key AI security services of Nightfall AI
Nightfall for ChatGPT
Nightfall for ChatGPT, a real-time, browser-based redaction tool for company data being entered into ChatGPT
Nightfall for SaaS
Nightfall for SaaS applications prevents data transmission through third-party SaaS platforms (e.g. chatbot conversations, documents, cloud storage and other SaaS apps)
Nightfall API
Nightfall API classifies and protects data transfers within custom applications / API connections with third-party platforms
Conclusion
Nightfall AI as an innovative tool in the arsenal that provides security and risk mitigation in an age of rapid proliferation of Generative AI capabilities.
A single security tool won’t enable good data governance, but it can certainly be helpful to augment an existing Gen AI data governance strategy over a small or large organization.
